Afro-Brazilica Session - Live on WRIR.org
May 02, 2011 10:14 AM PDT
This is a live session from the second hour of my show "Middle East Coast Mecca" every Sunday night/Monday morn from 1-3am on Richmond Independent Radio (WRIR.org). This was the night after VCU went wild over their team's loss in the Final Four and also the night after the April Afro Beta session. The first half of this set reflects the usual Afro Beta vibes and the second half represents Brazilica which is going down once again on May 28th at Balliceaux. Catch a dose via the mix below... Chekere Son - Gilles Peterson's Havana Cultura Band Audi, yo!!! Afro Beta Sessions Vol. 4 "Deeep Soul Edition"October 29, 2010 10:45 AM PDT
This is a prelim mix to the Afro Beta "Deep Soul Edition" we are throwing Sept 4th (and every First Saturday) at the Nile in RVA. This mix starts pretty laid back, gets pretty busy in the middle, then closes out with some more chill and familiar remixed classics. This is the mix you bump BEFORE you go out to the spot to get ya head right. Chiggity check it.... Audi, yo! "Middle East Coast Mecca" Afro Beta Sessions Vol.3May 31, 2010 06:25 PM PDT
This another session of deep house, international beats, and wide open summer jams that are influenced by the monthly AudioMassTransit event Afro Beta that we throw here in Richmond, VA every First Saturday. It was recorded live on my weekly show "Middle East Coast Mecca" which airs on Sunday night on WRIR.org from 1-3AM EST. Much like the AB event, this mix spans African, Latin, Middle Eastern and Jazz elements among other sounds and is heavy on native rhythms. Unfortunately it's impossible to completely capture the raw energy and live drums of a live Afro Beta Session but this series of mixes is the closest you'll get. Open up the windows, crank up the volume, and enjoy..... May 03, 2010 04:51 PM PDT
This is an AfroBeta session I put together on the fly to celebrate the start of the 2010 Vancouver Olympics and Ethiopia's lone entry into these Winter Olympics Robel Taklemariam. Robel is the brother of Natan, Yosef, and Benyam who are owners of The Nile Restaurant/ Ethiopian Ski Association here in Richmond, VA where I do AfroBeta. Robel has re-written history through his perseverance and pursuing his love in cross-country skiing. This session is to his enduring spirit and dedication to representing his culture to the fullest. This mix is full of o.g. tracks and remixes from Masters At Work, Osunlade, Terry Hunter and others. Check it deeply... Percussion Suite/ Tony Devivo March 22, 2010 06:34 PM PDT
This is a live house set from the 12/13 edition of Middle East Coast Mecca. Been spinning a lot of afrobeat and deep house recently at the Afro Beta events so this is a dose of that type of flavor. Lotsa drums and bangin' rhythms... Out!!! |
